The Paddling Capital of the West
Folsom Water Activities
Folsom is quickly becoming known as the Paddling Capital of the West, thanks to the calm waters of Lake Natoma and the expansive shoreline of Folsom Lake. Whether you’re paddleboarding, kayaking, or simply looking to spend time on the water, Folsom offers experiences for every pace and skill level.
Lake Natoma or Folsom Lake?
Located just 30 minutes from Sacramento, these two lakes create the perfect setting for both peaceful paddles and high-energy lake days.
Lake Natoma
One of the best places in Northern California for paddleboarding and kayaking. A 5 mph speed limit keeps motorized boat traffic to a minimum, creating calm, protected water that’s ideal for beginners, families, and anyone looking for a relaxed paddle. The narrow, river-like setting, shaded shoreline, and wildlife make it a peaceful place to explore.
Folsom Lake
A large open reservoir with wide views of the Sierra foothills. Popular for boating, wake sports, and jet skis, it offers a more energetic environment. Paddlers can still enjoy the lake, especially in the early morning before boat traffic picks up.
Pro tip: Start your day with a calm paddle on Lake Natoma, then head to Folsom Lake for beaches, boating, or a lakeside picnic.
