Not everyone knows that Folsom’s an easy place to get outside. You’ll find trails throughout the city, plenty of outdoor space, and nearly 50 parks! It’s easy to explore, with several short hikes offering interesting sights and activities.

Whether you’re looking for a kid-friendly hike or simply want to explore but don’t have all day, you’ve got options in Folsom. Check out the following trails!

Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park

Fun fact: One of the oldest hydroelectric facilities in the world is in Folsom! Now a California State Park, it has several trails, including one to an ancient grinding rock and the powerhouse buildings. Discover the unique and innovative history behind the Folsom Powerhouse, then stroll along the paths.

If you’re feeling adventurous or need to work up more of an appetite, continue to the American River Trail to the Folsom Historic Truss Bridge, with views of the river and neighboring Rainbow Bridge!

American River Bike Trail and Black Miner’s Bar Loop Trail

Tackling the entire American River Trail, all 32 miles of it, is a challenge for most of us. Luckily, you can get a taste of it on this scenic 2.8-mile loop trail that starts and ends at Black Miner’s Bar. The trail is a combination of paved and dirt, with historic markers and several river access points.

Hinkle Creek Nature Area

You’ll find plenty of open spaces in Folsom, but Hinkle Creek Nature Area is special. It’s 36 acres of gorgeous trees, small pastures, a demonstration garden, and its namesake creek, with trails meandering throughout.
