The Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Hours of operation vary by season, so be sure to check the zoo’s website for the latest information.

The Folsom Powerhouse– Visitors have the option to take a guided tour or set up a group tour in advance. Guided tours are a great introduction to the history of ingenuity that this place holds, with our docents leading tours of the facility five days per weekPre-arranged tours dive into much more detail, and they are often led by our docents, who have a background in electrical engineering and hydropower. If these tours aren’t your speed, you can also take a self-guided tour of the park at your own pace.
 
Sunset/Full Moon Kayak Tours – Evening is one of the most peaceful times to be in a kayak. On this excursion, enjoy the peacefulness of evening paddling on a quiet lake. We’ll explore hidden waterways that provide a refuge for many types of wildlife. Bring a date for the perfect romantic evening or the family for a true adventure.
 
Self-guided Bike Tour – Ebike Rental  – Explore Folsom and Sacramento at your own pace on a self-guided bike tour. Pick up your bike right off the trail and head north to the Zoo Sanctuary and Johnny Cash Trail and beyond.  Go the other direction on the trail and go to Old Sacramento Waterfront. There are lots of interesting things to do and places to see within riding distance of Practical Cycle. 
 
Guided Horseback Rides –  Shadow Glen Riding Stables offers scenic one-hour and two-hour western trail rides along the American River at Lake Natoma. All horseback rides are fully guided by certified wranglers knowledgeable of the area.

Yes, dogs are allowed at Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, but they must be kept on a leash at all times. There are also some areas where dogs are not permitted, so be sure to check the park’s regulations before you go.

Yes, Folsom Lake is generally safe for swimming, but visitors should be aware of potential hazards such as underwater obstacles and sudden changes in water depth. Always follow posted signs and swim in designated areas only.​
