The city’s past is golden with its roots tied to the California Gold Rush.  Folsom continues to be a gold mine for corporations, families and individuals who find the quality of life and economic atmosphere here to be outstanding. Companies such as Intel, Kikkoman Foods, Geikkeikan Sake USA, California Independent Systems Operators, Jadoo and others have all chosen Folsom as their corporate headquarters.

Folsom has received accolades nationally as both Business Week and Money Magazine has recognized the city as being among the most affordable suburbs as well as ranking it among the top places to live in the nation. Fortune Small Business has listed Folsom as one of the top 100 places in the nation to live and launch a small business.

The city has a current population of about 70,000. It was incorporated in 1946 and is a charter city. The Folsom City Council has five members who are elected at large to serve for four years.

The city of Folsom provides a variety of services necessary for a desireable quality of life. Efficient public safety services include fast assistance from ambulance and fire protection personnel responding from four fire stations (a fifth under construction) and a proactive police department with more than 40 sworn officers. Folsom's Park and Recreation Department has a nationwide reputation for its innovative programs and park development. In addition, Folsom provides its residents and businesses with public utilities including sewer, water, solid waste and household hazardous materials disposal.

Residents have convenient access to first-class health care at Mercy Hospital of Folsom.  Kaiser Permanente offers its members access to an expanding array of quality health care options including a medical center, soon-to-open surgery center and in the near future, a full-service hospital.

In addition to having a top-ranked public school system, Folsom is home to Folsom Lake College, a modern campus which recently added 50,000 square feet of new instructional facilities. The college is constructing a state-of-the-art performing arts center which will be an important Sacramento regional center for arts and entertainment.

Here in Folsom all of the key ingredients of a successful community are established including higher education, accessible healthcare, recreation opportunities, a successful business community, responsive government and quality police and fire protection. At the same time, Folsom offers a unique sense of place by embracing its small town charm.
